Abstract

The birth of a child inaugurates the parental and coparental subsystem, which, together with the marital one, can be mutually influenced. Therefore, the objective was to describe themes and results of studies that investigated the relationship between the marital, parental and coparental subsystems in families with children. A systematic literature review was conducted in Pubmed, Web of Science, Ebsco, Scielo, Lilac and PsycInfo databases considering the last 5 years. A descriptive analysis was performed to present the objectives, design, participants and results of the studies. From the thematic analysis, the articles were classified into five categories: Parenthood, coparenting and marital quality; Marital quality: reflections on coparenting and parenting; Coparenting and parenting: repercussions on marital quality; Marital quality, parenting and coparenting: reverberations in children's symptoms; Symptoms of children and their expressions in marital quality, parenting and coparenting, and Reciprocal influences between conjugality, parenting, coparenting and children's symptoms. The importance of interventions to understand and guide the family system is highlighted, as well as the individual variables that permeate the relationship between the subsystems.
