Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Being unpublished, that is, it must not have been published, or be submitted, to any other national or international journal.

  • Have prior approval of the submission and signature of the authors (Declaration of Responsibility and Consent for Submission).
  • Present the description of each author's contribution to the research and the article.
  • Present a brief biography of the authors.

Author Guidelines

Registration in the system and subsequent access are essential for the submission of works as well as for monitoring the ongoing editorial process. If you have an account, click Access. If you want to create a new account, click on Register

It is essential that the manuscript is unpublished and not submitted to any other periodical. The length of the manuscript will have a minimum of 10 pages and a maximum of 40 pages, excluding all pre-textual, textual and post-textual elements: resumo, abstract, resumen, references, figures and tables, and, optionally, suggestions reading or other and presentation of adjacent topic. The formatting and presentation of the references in the body of the manuscript or in the list of references must be in full compliance with the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual (7th edition or current edition).

The submission will only be accepted with the presentation 1) of the manuscript in accordance with the journal's rules; 2) the Checklist for Authors filled out and signed by the author responsible for contacting the magazine and 3) the Declaration of Responsibility and Consent for Submission completed and signed by / the authors.

I. Types of accepted collaboration

Theoretical / conceptual studies - Theoretical / conceptual article should develop arguments to advance concepts or theories using, preferably, the literature of current empirical research. The presentation of the analysis of theoretical constructs and the questioning of models with the corresponding refinement of the theory (s) / concept (s) is expected. It is suggested to clearly present gaps, discrepancies and inconsistencies in a theory or concept and to discuss clearly formulated proposals for future research. The manuscript must be organized in: Introduction / Method / Results / Conclusion.

Historical studies - Article that highlights the historical character of theories, concepts, philosophical strands of theories / concepts, approaches or practices in psychology. It should be characterized as an essay that presents the origin (s), the paths, the changes in the themes selected for analysis. The guiding question or question of the article must be clearly defined in an introduction that discusses the state of the art of the highlighted topic. The historical analysis procedure adopted must be described in detail. The manuscript must be organized in: Introduction / Objective / Analysis Procedures / Development / Conclusion

Methodological studies - Article that constitutes the analysis of investigation procedures and methods. The article should present a critical analysis of the procedures or method adopted in the research (s), pointing out successes, weaknesses and offering methodological alternatives. It is noteworthy that it is not about the presentation of articles that report the realization of empirical research (quantitative or qualitative). The summaries of empirical articles can only be presented by way of illustration. It is expected that a new approach to research practice or method changes or discussions on data analysis (quantitative or qualitative) will be exposed and discussed. It is requested to follow the recommendation of the APA Manual (7th edition or current edition) for the formulation of methodological studies that should offer the reader “details necessary for researchers to verify the applicability and feasibility of methodology for a given type of research problem studied ( p. 8-9). The manuscript must be organized in: Introduction / Method / Results / Conclusion.

Literature review - A clear and complete presentation and description of the guiding problem of the review is expected, accompanied by a synthesis of research that reports the state of the art. The manuscript should be organized with: an introduction that summarizes the research related to the problem treated; description of the method (It is suggested the Prisma system or clear information on the nature of the review - Cochrane system - narrative review or others), duly referenced, with a detailed description of the procedures for searching, selecting and analyzing the articles, published in a minimum interval 10 years. The results and discussion should describe the relationships, gaps, inconsistencies and contradictions between the surveys and highlight future research suggestions. The literature review may or may not be accompanied by meta-analysis or meta-synthesis. The manuscript must be organized in: Introduction / Method / Results / Conclusion.

Bionotas da Psicologia Psicologia - The session aims to create a collection of Biographical Notes and bibliographic indications of those professionals, academic or not, who stood out in the construction and institutionalization of Psychology in Brazil. The Notes should present the main information about the person biographed, such as date and place of birth (and death, if applicable), data on academic and professional life, networks and intellectual contexts of the professional life of the person being biographed, contribution for study, research, and other relevant psychology activities. The Notes must be presented in up to five pages and include up to five bibliographic items of the person biographed. It is requested to include a photo, a book cover or some image reference of the person biographed. Submissions will be assessed by the Editorial Committee, which will assess the compatibility of the proposal with the standards and objectives of the journal.

Memorabilia - The session has the objective of recording the presentations that remained in the listeners' memory, without being published in scientific journals, books, annals of events, academic or administrative documents (Note that material written in any medium will not be published) . Memorabilia will bring together conferences, lectures, class notes, seminars presented by authors of Psychology, given at events, courses, seminars, scientific dissemination programs and others held in the country. The manuscript may be submitted by the authors themselves or by an intervening person / proponent. When the work is presented by the author, it must be derived from work done by the author. When submitted by people other than the author, the manuscript must be accompanied by the express, written and signed authorization by the author or the legal guardian of the author's work. The manuscript of the Memorabilia session must have a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 40 pagesImportant: - The article must consist of: (1) a brief description of the context that gave rise to the speech, conferences, lectures, classes, seminars, videos, podcast etc., that is, describe the original conditions for presenting the work (information on the type of work / event / institution / academic context / place / date on which the work was presented) and (2) the presentation of the work itself, composed by the general presentation of the theme and the objective of the manuscript followed by the development and conclusion. In addition to the usual list of references, (without forgetting social media - the 7th edition of the APA manual has the format for presenting more contemporary references), it is requested to highlight at least two essential references for the reader accompany or delve into the topic and give up to two readings or videos or other means of access for the reader to similar material. We emphasize that the reading instructions must be presented after the list of references. Additional highlights and indications must be presented after the references. The manuscript of the Memorabilia session will be appreciated by the Editorial Committee, which will assess the merit of the proposal and its compatibility with the rules and objectives of the journal. In this evaluation, the following will be considered: the objective of the manuscript, the development of the theme, the conclusions and the scope of the contribution to the area of ​​Psychology to which it is proposed.

Documentary study - The article must clearly explain the objective, and be organized from the presentation of a research question or hypotheses of interest to be addressed by examining previously existing sources. The text must include an inventory of the available documents and their critical analysis, in order to consider the authenticity, reliability and origin of the selected material. In addition, it should describe the procedures used to identify, select and analyze the documentation. The documents that will compose the work may be in the public or private domain. For example: Federal, state, municipal or institutions, councils and entities regulations (laws, decrees, resolutions, ordinances and norms); National and international agreements, treaties and conventions; Data from censuses, institutional or private archives, corporate reports, patent registration, genealogy; Scientific reports from funding agencies or consolidated research groups, as well as technical notes; Radio or television programs, cinematographic documents and/or their scripts, advertising material, podcasts, websites and social networks; Personal diaries and correspondence, family documents and iconographic records, autobiographies, etc. Documentary studies differ from literature review articles, as they analyze documents other than scientific texts published in the form of monographs, dissertations, theses, articles, chapters and books. The manuscript must be organized in: Introduction/Method/Results/Conclusion.

Essay - aims to expose and discuss an original thesis on a given topic, without exhausting it. In the essay, a point of view is defended and an argument is presented, both to support and to oppose the thesis, according to a solid base of references in the literature. Literature references are essential and must be clearly presented. The manuscript must be organized in: Introduction / Rationale / Conclusion / References.

Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes encourages its authors to include at the end of theoretical / conceptual, historical, methodological studies and literature reviews some elements that have the optional character. Even though they are optional, the magazine considers that any of the elements will enrich the information to potential readers. Optional elements can be:

  • A brief presentation of the recognition of the importance of up to five references or quotation (maximum of 20 words - references do not count).
  • The presentation of up to five references of books, videos, websites that could be of interest to the reader of the article and that are not part of the manuscript references
  • The presentation of a brief discussion (up to 200 words) dealing with a topic adjacent to the manuscript considered fascinating by the authors

Optional elements must be presented on separate pages, after the textual elements of the manuscript.

II. Guidance for submission of articles

The submission of the manuscript must be made through the electronic system for managing the publication process, available at: https://cadernosdepsicologia.org.br, Manuscripts received by conventional mail, fax, e-mail or any other form of submission will not be appreciated by magazine. After submitting the manuscript on the electronic system, the authors will receive the confirmation message. The estimated average time for processing between the submission of the manuscript and its publication is one year.

The following conditions are essential for the manuscript submitted to the journal to be considered for editorial analysis:

  • Being unpublished, that is, it must not have been published, or be submitted, to any other national or international journal.
  • Comply with all Check List recommendations for authors
  • Comply with the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual (7th edition or current edition). Failure to comply with the Manual's recommendations will imply an automatic request for adjustments to the standards, prior to the assessment of acceptability for consideration by ad hoc reviewers.
  • Have prior approval of the submission and signature of the authors (Declaration of Responsibility and Consent for Submission).
  • Present the description of each author's contribution to the research and the article.
  • Present a mini curriculum of the authors.

III. Ethical aspects

The ethical commitments of Cadernos de Psicologia/Psychology Notes were inspired by the precepts that guide the “Annual Review of Psychology” (https://www.annualreviews.org/journal/psych). The journal bases its editorial process on the Ethics Committee in Publication (Committee on Publication Ethics / COPE) and the American Psychological Association Publication Manual (APA / 7th edition or current edition)

Publishers' commitments and duties:

  • Adopt processes to ensure the quality of the material they publish;
  • Maintain the integrity of the academic record;
  • Encourage the accuracy, integrity and clarity of the manuscripts;
  • Encourage objective and impartial evaluation by the Editorial Committee;
  • Promote fair, impartial and timely peer review;
  • Evaluate with rigor, objectivity and parsimony all manuscripts submitted to the journal, without any distinction;
  • Offer objective, constructive and, above all, informative opinions to the authors of the evaluated manuscript;
  • Indicate ad hoc reviewers who have no conflict of interest in the publication of the manuscript, whether in relation to the authors, the research objectives, or the sponsoring entity.
  • Ensure the processing of the manuscript in the double blind review process.
  • Perform the processing of manuscripts in the shortest possible time.
  • Ensure that any and all editorial decisions will be based only on the importance, quality, originality and merit of the manuscript.
  • Publish corrections, clarifications, retractions whenever necessary;
  • Provide information on funders of research or other academic works published in the magazine;
  • Strive to meet the needs of authors and readers;
  • Prevent business interests from compromising the journal's intellectual and ethical standards;
  • Defend freedom of expression;

Responsibilities of the authors:

  • Ensure that the manuscript submitted for publication is not submitted or published in any other communication medium, nor has it been published (See Model Declaration of Responsibility and Consent for Submission);
  • Complete and attach the Checklist for authors
  • Present a complete list of references, in compliance with the provisions of the APA (7th edition or current edition), at the end of the manuscript;
  • Inform explicitly about financial support, when applicable;
  • Inform the active participation of authors in the preparation of the manuscript, contributing significantly to the text;
  • Ensure that there is no plagiarism of any kind;
  • Inform the accreditation and / or permission of the owner of any registered trademark or copyright in the manuscript, if necessary.
  • To acknowledge that you are the copyright holder (s). Be responsible for the authorization (s) for reproduction of articles published in Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes.
  • Carefully review the grammatical correctness of the manuscript in Portuguese and the abstracts in English (abstract) and Spanish (resumen).
  • Declaring, explicitly, individually, any potential conflict of interest, financial, direct and / or indirect, and non-financial, etc.
  • Ensure that any reproduction of the article in other media contains the information of the complete references of the original publication of the article in Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes.
  • Grant Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes the authorization to reproduce the articles published here in other means of dissemination and for purposes of dissemination in other means of dissemination of the Brazilian Society of Psychology (SBP).
  • In addition, the authors undertake to guarantee the quality of the writing that will be their sole responsibility. If the manuscript fails to meet the rules for clear, rigorous and correct writing, it cannot be published in this journal and will be filed without appreciation by associated editors.

The editorial committee undertakes to seek the constant development of the scope of the journal, and the editorial quality of Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes and, when and if appropriate, will start indexing.

IV. Presentation of manuscripts

All articles submitted to Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes must meet the following guidelines: be typed in a word processor compatible with the Word for Windows ® 6.0 or higher standard, in Times New Roman font, size 12; with double spacing and left alignment. The page should correspond to the A4 size, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides (i.e., top, bottom, left and right). Words or expressions of foreign origin, foreign words and statistical symbols must be highlighted in italics.

The manuscripts may contain, if necessary, figures and colored photos, since all publications will be exclusively electronic. However, according to the rules of the APA Publication Manual (7th Edition or current edition), colors are not allowed in tables.

Order of presentation of the components of the manuscript:

1. Personalized cover sheet containing:

1.1. Full title in Portuguese, English and Spanish. The full title should not exceed 15 words.

1.2. Suggested short title in Portuguese, English and Spanish. The abbreviated title must not exceed four words.

1.3. Name of each author and their institutional affiliations. It is mandatory to include each author's ORCID (see https://orcid.org/).

1.4. Indication of an author and his / her address, telephone number and corresponding email address to contact the Magazine.

1.5. Indication of the author responsible for contacting readers as well as their address and e-mail contact.

1.6. When necessary, include a paragraph recognizing financial support, collaboration from colleagues, technicians and other facts.

1.7. Authors' note with other information they deem relevant (optional).

1.8. Present the description of the contribution of each author to the research and the article

1.9. The Cover Page must be numbered with the number 1 and followed by the other pages of the manuscript numbered in sequence.

2. Personalized cover sheet without identification:

2.1. Full title in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

2.2. Suggested short title in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

3. Sheet containing the Abstract in Portuguese, English (Abstract) and Spanish (Resumen)

The Abstract must contain a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 250 words, followed by five keywords for indexing the work. The keywords must be chosen with adequate precision for classification purposes, allowing the work to be retrieved from the set of similar works. It is suggested that the authors search for keywords in the BVS Psicologia Brasil terminology bank. Available at: http://www.bvs-psi.org.br/php/level.php?lang=pt&component=17&item=124. For key words or key words, search for Thesaurus.

4. Manuscript itself

The manuscript must start with a cover page containing the title of the text and the subtitle, in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

The title must contain up to 15 words. It must be a clear statement about the content of the article. It is suggested that the author follow the instructions for organizing the title and subtitle in the most recent edition of the APA Publication Manual, (7th edition or current edition).

The body of the text must have a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 40 pages, excluding the cover page, abstract and list of bibliographic references. It should be compatible with A4 size paper, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides and indentation of the first line of the 1.2 paragraph. The file must be recorded in a Word for Windows®6.0 or higher editor, with Times New Roman font size 12, double spacing between lines, including summary and reference

The places for insertion of figures and tables must be clearly indicated in the text.

Footnotes must be restricted to complementing information that, considered essential, does not fit in the logical sequence of the text; should be kept to a minimum.

Authors' citations must obey the rules of the APA Publication Manual, (7th edition or current edition). In the case of direct citation, the transcript must be enclosed in quotation marks and the author's citation must be followed by the cited page number. Literal quotes should be avoided, but when they have 40 words or more, they should be presented in a separate block, starting in a new line, with 0.5 cm indentation on each margin, in the position of a new paragraph. The same font size as the text (12) must be used.

The References list must be inserted in a new reference page formatted in double space.

5. Figures

One must be presented at the end of the text, one on each page of the text, including a caption. To ensure reproduction quality, figures containing drawings must be sent in quality for photography. As there are limits to the width of figures in the published version (PDF), authors must take care that the subtitles maintain reading quality, in case reduction is required. The title of the should be presented separately as text, on a separate sheet. In addition, produce a file containing all the figures, each figure on a page and a page with all the titles of the Figures with the corresponding numbers.

If the manuscript presents figures extracted from other articles or media, it will be necessary to send the express authorization of the author or vehicle for dissemination for use duly proven by the author or responsible agency. Without written authorization, the article will not be appreciated. The authorization must be attached at the time of submission of the manuscript.

6. Tables

They must be presented at the end of the text, one on each page, including title and caption (when necessary). Authors should limit their width to 60 characters, for simple tables that occupy a printed column, including three characters of space between columns, and limit their width to 125 characters, for tables that occupy two printed columns. The length of tables must not exceed 55 lines, including title and footer. If the manuscript has tables extracted from other articles or media, it will be necessary to attach the authorization for use, duly confirmed by the author or responsible agency.

7. Attachments / Appendices

Attachments and appendices should be presented only when they contain essential original information, or an indispensable highlight for understanding the work.

8. Optional Elements

The journal provides for the possibility of three types of elements that can be added to the manuscript at the discretion of the authors: Brief presentation of the recognition of the importance of up to five references or citations; Presentation of up to five references of books, videos, websites that could be of interest to the article reader and that are not part of the manuscript references and presentation of a brief discussion (up to 200 words) that deals with a topic adjacent to the manuscript considered fascinating by the authors

V. Appreciation by the editorial committee

The manuscripts received will be considered by the Editorial Committee. If they are in accordance with the magazine's publication guidelines, they will be referred to ad hoc reviewers. The evaluation follows a double-blind review procedure. The identity of authors and their institutional affiliations will not be disclosed to ad hoc reviewers. Likewise, the identity of ad hoc reviewers will not be informed to authors. The Editorial Committee will assess the opinions (ad hoc) and notify the decision to authors. Decisions can include: accepted without modification; accepted with request for reformulation, need for extensive reformulations, resubmission for new appreciation, or refusal.

In case of request for reformulations, these must be attended by authors. The revised manuscript must be submitted again by the system, in accordance with the full submission process. The reformulated manuscript must contain all revisions marked in red. In a letter to editors, each review must be detailed and all suggestions and comments must be indicated with the respective change or justification / reason for not complying with them. The reformulated manuscript will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee and ad hoc reviewers. As many changes can be requested as are necessary for a possible final acceptance of the text. The final decision on the publication of the manuscript will be communicated to the authors. It should be noted that the request for revisions does not necessarily imply acceptance of publication of the reformulated manuscript.

The Editorial Committee may make minor changes to the text. In case the manuscript is approved for publication, a graphic proof will be sent for the last review of authors. This review must be returned accompanied by a statement of approval by the authors and co-authors.

The average processing time of the manuscript between submission and publication is one year.

Important: Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes does not correct the submitted manuscripts, nor the abstracts presented in the different languages, regarding grammatical and orthographic aspects. The care and grammatical correction and spelling of the manuscripts is the exclusive obligation of the authors of the manuscript, being a step prior to submission. The articles will be published with the wording proposed by the authors. To avoid returning the manuscript due to difficulties in writing, it is suggested that, prior to sending the manuscript for review by the journal, the authors submit the text to a review by a professional or specialized company.

VI. Acceptance of the manuscript

After the period of editing an online article has ended, it will receive a DOI and will be published in Cadernos de Psicologia and in the media of the magazine and SBP.

A volume of the journal, Cadernos de Psicologia / Psychology Notes, with ISSN and release date, will be composed as soon as a set of at least ten articles is published.
