Abstract

Studies have shown the influence of the verbal behavior of political authorities on social media, and these complex cultural relationships can be explained through specific social arrangements maintained by a common consequence, specified by the elements that make up the concept of metacontingency. Furthermore, the communication of political authorities with the population influences the adoption of health measures during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Study 1 aimed to analyze the verbal statements of the Governor of the Federal District through posts on his official Facebook profile, as part of the coordination of the Covid-19 pandemic in the DF. Data collection occurred from 02/09/2020 to 17/12/2020 and involved all of the Governor's posts from 26/02/2020 to 26/08/2021. Posts on the timeline were individually recorded, with videos, photos, and links analyzed. The posts were categorized for analysis. Study 2 aimed to investigate the mental health of university students by analyzing their interactions on the social media platform Instagram with the unbsincera page, which had 46,000 followers and was created on 27/05/2020. Data collection was divided into nine blocks, with emphasis on the academic semesters 2020/1, 2020/2, 2021/1, and 2021/2. Study 1 results showed inconsistencies between the Governor's verbal statements, epidemiological scenarios with different levels of severity, and the main health recommendations from international sources such as the UN and national sources like universities, laboratories, or research centers. Data obtained from Study 2 showed that the majority of posts from university students addressed issues related to physical and mental health, including workload, stress, evaluations, and professors. These studies analyze the impact of language on cultural practices in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
