Abstract

Affirmative Therapy is a special set of psychological knowledge that, combined with a psychotherapeutic approach, understands complex issues related to prejudice against sexual and gender diversity that LGBTQIAP+ people face. This Integrative Review gathered Brazilian publications on Affirmative Therapy from 2009, the year in which the first Brazilian work on the subject was launched. Searching for “affirmative therapy”, 25 publications from the BVS, Google Scholar and LILACS databases and CAPES Periodical Portal were selected. The results showed an increase in publications between the years 2020 and 2022. The main gaps indicated in traditional Psychology were the curriculum of the Psychology courses, still cisheterocentric; the prejudice of psychologists/as/gues, and the lack of training to assist LGBTQIAP+ people.
